Canopy Warning Switch / Wiring
Before final installation of the canopy, i decided it was a good idea to install the wiring for the canopy warning switch. These wires run along the bottom edge of the canopy glass, in the little gap between the side skins and the canopy rails. To get the lengths correct for the wires, i needed to first install the switch.
I found that the normally closed contact was uncomfortably close to the hardware bolting the canopy pin blocks on - so just cut this off.
The canopy switch is active to ground when the canopy is closed - aka Active High. So this terminal was not needed (and could not really be used anyway due to clearance with the nut).
I tested the switch was working, however it will need to be re-adjusted once the canopy glass is installed. |
Next up was the wiring - it turns out that this switch (ES-00306) does not have 0.250" terminals - they are 0.187" and 0.020" thick. The kit did not come with terminals for these, but digikey to the rescue - they are TE Faston 640917-1 terminals.
I also ordered the following hardware for the CPC connector, which will interface the canopy with the aircraft wiring. A standard Size 11 backshell will not fit when the canopy closes, so i will use a 90 degree backshell.
Canopy CPC Part Numbers:
Male Pins (Canopy Side): 206434-1
Femals Sockets (aircraft side) with mounting flange: 206433-1
90 Degree Backshells: 1546347-2
The wiring loom was protected with some flexible nylon wrap, then the wires run through the hole in the side rails (and secured with clear RTV). At the front end, they were proceted with spiwrap, and cable tied to the canopy using the provided holes.
The RTV is just there to immobilise the wires. |
The kit also didn't come with a grommet for the small hole, but i had one for the larger hole. |
Canopy Odds / Ends
Some small jobs remaining for the canopy:
38-26 - Cut notches in the Canopy Seal
I installed the two canopy seal strips to the canopy, and taped them together in oder to get the locations for the notches perfect.
I wasn't certain this measurement was correct - so taped the strips together on the canopy frame to be sure the cutouts were in the correct place on the seal. |
The seals were cut with an exacto knife - i could not get a hole punch to fit. |
