The prep for the bottom wing skins was fairly straight forward. It mostly consisted of clecoing the skins to the wing and marking where the skins needed to be relived. I made sure there was a small gap between the skins the any adjacent skins such as fuel tanks or leading edges. the lower corners where the skins overlap were sanded to reduce their thickness for a better fit against the fuel tank skins.
There was some match drilling of the bottom skins to the inboard ribs and these were all deburred.
All skin edges were deburred.
The pitot mast hole was cut in the right wing skin.
The skins were cleaned, etched and primed by hanging on nails in the back room.
Once primed they were all dimpled ready for riveting.
The #40 dimples next to the #8 screw dimples were done with a ground down die, so as to not crush the larger dimples. |
Next up {finally!} - bottom skin riveting.
