20-02: Flap and Aileron Gap Fairings

The aileron and flap gap fairing are the first step in the bottom wing skins. These were very straight forward and needed almost no adjustment out of the box. They were primed and installed using the rivet squeezer for the most part, and i used a gun and bar for the rivets which joined the gap stiffner to the spar and also a rib - as i could not fit the squeezer in here.

Where the aileron hinge arms are located, there was a SB installed which meant one rivet was way too close to the bracket to use a solid rivet. The hole is shown by the cleco below. I had the option of using a LP4-3 or a MSP-42 rivet here as i had a couple of both on hand. Van's said both would be fine, but hte MSP-42 was stronger, so i used that!

You can see here how close the rivet is to the SB aileron bracket.

The installed MSP-42. You can see a mark on the paint on the SB bracket. This was from a #30 reamer i used in the hole to clear out some paint - it really is that close to the SB bracket.
