Sealing Baffle Corners

The baffles have been riveted together in primer, and the plan is to only final paint the baffles once they have been fitted and run the engine on the test stand. For this run i will not apply any sealant around the baffles - this will be done after the baffles are final painted.

However, there are a number of holes in the corners and seams of the baffles which will need sealing, and i figured that the baffles would look better if these areas were also final painted, rather than having RTV smeared all over the seams. The RTV used to seal the baffles to the engine is not paintable, so i decided to full these corner holes and seams with Proseal.

This can then be scuffed and painted over when the final painting of the baffles is complete.

Little squares of rag are your best friend when the proseal comes out!

I masked the areas i wanted to apply sealant to, to try and keep the beast at bay.

Prepped and ready to go

I applied sealant along all the corner joints - to help keep the air from leaking, as well as aesthetics.

The corner holes were sealed from behind

This is the scoop behind #3. All the little corner leaks were sealed. The sides were not, as i will seal these with RTV once the baffles are pulled tight around the cylinders.

There was a leak path around the oil cooler flange between the welds
