38-31: Canopy Fibreglass Fairing - Round 7 - More Primer / A step backwards

 More Primer Sanding!

Once the paint was dry, i was able to inspect the surface for any pinholes or low spots. These were filled with Blade Putty.

WARNING!

DO NOT USE BLADE PUTTY! - And here is why...

The sprayed coat of primer / blade putty filler was wet sanded with 240 grit again, this time looking for a nice surface. The aim here was to sand the paint back, but try to not go through the paint too much to the underlying surface.

Once thie was sanded back, 2 thick coats of primer were added on top.

A Step Backwards

I was thinking that this was all looking very good, and i was getting very close to finishing (maybe a light sand will have it done), i decided to remove the tapes and see what the edge looked like.

Well, it turns out my tapes may not have been applied as evenly as i thought - since they were 2 layers thick, one tape had to be laid over the top of the other, trying to align the edges as i went. It seems in some places, these edges were not perfectly aligned, meaning the micro on the edge was sanded back to the edge of the TOP tape, but the micro was actually laid over the top of the BOTTOM tape very slightly. The meant some chipping along my hard fought nice straight edge (in a couple of places). Bugger.

This will need some repair.
